  1. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

Because I have a family, I am motivated to be successful for several reasons: I do not want to fail and have to take a class over again, thereby having to spend more time away from my family. Also, I want to be successful so that I can finish school and help contribute to my family's income. It is important to us to be able to continue to afford to send our children to Christian school, and other things.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

I like and agree with having intrinsic motivation more than extrinsic motivation. I feel that you stay motivated more when your motivations are more intrinsic than extrinsic. For example, although I want to be successful so that I can contribute to my family, my motivation is not "I want to make a lot of money", but more "I want to be able to help my husband provide for my children and for our future."

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

The way I look at it is that it really is such a short time that you are in class. Don't look at it like "Ohhhhh, I have 4 more years to go!" Take it one class at a time. Think "Just a few short months and this class will be done! Others have done it, and I can do it, too."

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Time management is a big one, especially in online classes. Have a good schedule where you have set times to work on your work, and don't procrastinate! If you are having a hard time understanding something, there are so many resources for students. Email the instructor, get tutoring, talk with a school counselor, etc.

I look forward to reading other students' comments, as they always provide more insight! :)

  2. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

I often reflect on my accomplishments and the things that I wished I could've or would've accomplished. When I study, I try to use an incentive to help me pull through and finish my goal. I will tell myself to study for an hour at a time and give myself breaks to do whatever I please for a half our and come back to studying in order to maintain my energy. This makes it easier to want to concentrate on my work. For my future references I also set aside a list of goals or pictures of where I want to be that I personally write out in a journal to help motivate myself whether if it connected to school, financces, my physical attributes, etc.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

In chapter 1 it is stated that picturing change is a small step to changing your bad habits into good habits. I am not one to fantasize or even dream about what could happen. I prefer to stay in the present. I keep my expectations low and my effort at a realistc calm so that I do not become disappointed in myself if things do not fall through the way I dreamt it. I see that picturing change isn't necessarily about dreaming beyond realism, but it is about making realistic changes to help make your ideas real and motivate yourself to actually step in and make a small change to succeed.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I am definitely not thinking about dropping this class, however, I have been tempted to drop out of school at one point during my college career, but one thing that helped me the most was speaking with a counselor at the beginning of every semester. They helped me figure out what I wanted to pursue and how I could do that in a matter of three years. They helped me plan out my schedule and showed me how to navigate through school. I didn't feel like I was lost throughout the years. Having the support system of the counselors to sit me down and make me think about what grades I needed to be getting and what I needed to be doing was my lift.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

The two things that I struggle/(ed) with the most was procrastination and the environment that I surrounded myself in. I don't always stay away my distractions like my phone or my friends. This has really brought my motivation down in the past and it wasn't until last semester that I started to surround myself around people that were strictly into school. I wanted to be more like them and I wanted to be that engrossed in school which. This was my motivation and still is. I also don't like doing busy work. I can't stand work that is just there to keep your time full. I have had many teachers that tend to build up more than the students can handle and I shut down and procrastinate a lot when I feel that there is no need for me to do it. This is a horrible trait of mine and this is still something that I deal with. In order to kick that habit I start to do my homework and assignments ahead of time so that I won't be bombarded with anything during the weekends or even throughout the week. I hope that this is something that I can eventually conquer.

I like when Amy refers to viewing school in short term incriments. It's true that when you think of how many years you have left to go, it always seems like such a long time. When you take it a small step at a time it never seems too long. For example, when you have a 6 page paper to write in a matter of a week, thinking about it in terms or parahraphs per day or a page per day it start to look a bit easier as opposed to cramming it all together in one night.

    1. Hi Cedrice,
I enjoyed reading your posts! You had alot of helpful ideas on staying motivated. I agree that breaking up your study time into blocks can be very helpful and make the task of studying seem much less overwhelming. All too often it is so easy to just do nothing when we feel that there is just way too much to do.

I also find it easy to become distracted; especially when I am on the computer and am just going to check my email account or something else "really quick". It is really easy for time to just get away from you.

  3. 3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

If I were ever feeling discouraged or tempted to drop out I would try to use positive self talk, reminding myself that I'm strong, hard-working, and fully capable of the task at hand. If a certain class seems challenging I would acknowledge that maybe it will take a little more time and effort but I'll also remember how it applies to my bigger goals and where these skills and this information could fit into my career or my graduate studies. Things usually tie together for instance the vocab/root words I've learned in past English classes have helped me significantly when trying to remember key terms for my anatomy class this semester. Remember what you're going for and why you have to do what you have to do to get there.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Distractions are the biggest roadblock to my success. For example, relationships and commitments to work can both get in the way of my schooling which is pretty much the first building block to my career plans. I know many people (teens especially) get a job and get used to making money. The money might be good in the now but more often than not you don’t want to make that pay for the rest of your life. Being stuck in the present can get in the way of success in your future. Things that are significant to me today probably won’t be in years, months, maybe even weeks. So I need to be sure to keep things in perspective.

  4. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

As a 28 year old military veteran with a wife and child i have found motivation easy to come by. I want to get a degree so i can provide for may family and i know it is going to take some work. Luckily i am already programmed to work hard and follow directions and meet deadlines on time so i should have no problem. I am also getting paid to go to school thanks to the GI Bill so that helps motivate me too.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

I dont think there were any new ideas, just new terminology that i had not learned before. I already had a good understanding of what motivation is and what different things can motivate a person but i had not heard the terms intrinsic and extrinsic before. I have used the reward system in the past for simple things like motivating myself to clean the house. I would clean a room, play a game of FIFA or Madden, clean another room, play another game, and so on. Works pretty well.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I would never consider dropping out of college at this point in my life and considering the amount of money i am making being an unemployed college student, but my situation is different from most. I guess if someone were considering it they could go back and look at the chart that listed annual income by education and that should reaffirm the importance of college. Money might not buy happiness, but it sure doesnt hurt.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

The biggest road block for me is getting back into the swing of an academic environment after being out of a classroom for the past 11 years. Thus, when i took the placement test i did great in English, not so great in Math. Electrical engineering requires a ton of math classes that i cant even being taking until next year so it comes down to either doubling up on math courses or some point or changing my major. Either way i am going to have to make a tough decision and see it through to completion.

    5. Read comments posted by other students. Are any of their ideas useful to you?

I agree with Amy when she says that it isnt about making a lot of money but being able to provide for my family. I don't need to be rich, although, it wouldnt hurt. Hopefully some of the later blog entries will be able to help me as well.

  5. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

I motivate myself to be successful by being able to play soccer. In order to play soccer, I need to keep up my grades or else I will not be eligible. I also motivate myself by constantly thinking about my future and how doing good on each assignment will get me closer to place I want to be at in my life.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

Some motivation ideas I found interested was the rewarding yourself one. I find that to go a good technique because I love shopping, so I can say that if I get all my homework done, I can go shopping afterwards. Another one I found interesting was the habits one. I think changing habits in order to be successful is a great idea. I know I could change some study habits of my own.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I can motivate myself to continue by thinking about all the good that could come out of the class, instead of just thinking about how difficult the class may be. I could get the help I needed by asking questions and getting more involved in the class. I could think about my future and how getting a college degree would give me financial security, job security, and help me get a better understanding of the world.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Some roadblocks to my success is my ADHD. I have a hard time focusing and really understand the context of the class sometimes if I don't find the class interesting. I can overcome them by skimming through the textbook of the class and trying to find things that interest me so I have more initiative to learn. I could also find a better place to focus on my school work, such as a library or an office.

    5. Read comments posted by other students. Are any of their ideas useful to you?

I liked Amy's idea about being successful for the right reasons. Making a lot of money would be great, but having a family to feed and provide is even better. Getting your priorities straight is better than just making money to be happy.

  6. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

I keep myself motivated by thinking of what lies for me in the future-success. I have a mother I would like to care for; possibly a wife and kids to support. I look to the future for motivation and dream. With that dream I continue to go to school and work two jobs because I know one day I will be a nurse or PA and leave the world of poverty that I have been in for the past 20 years. I am focused and confident about the direction I want to take. More importantly, I am doing all this for myself.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Some major roadblocks to my success are money and school. I am the "working class" in the economy. My mother and I survive pay check to pay check. I do not go out and buy luxurious things, own an expensive car, or live in a nice house. Although, all of that would be nice to have or do. Furthermore, school is a major roadblock to my dream. Budget cuts have impacted my education and the classes I need to take. I have yet to take an actual science class, such as biology and or chemistry which is needed for my major and to transfer. Thus, money and school are the major roadblocks to my success.

    1. Trevor, I think that your motivation technique about just keeping in mind what lies ahead is very interesting and helpful. Your family, and career are really good things to fight for, and I think that you will be very successful if you keep that attitude up. If I apply this ideaology to my life, I would be looking forward to moving out of my mother's house, and into an apartment with my girlfriend of three years. When I finally move out, I do not want to rely on my family to help me financially, and I want to prove to them that I can support myself. Thanks for giving your insight on motivation, because it really helped me out. Also, good luck!

How do you motivate yourself to be successful ?

I like to have a positive attitude as much as i can. Having a negative attitude can only bring a person down and make their day awful. Also, i plan on having a good career when I'm older to support not only myself but when i have a family as well. I have to stay motivated to finish school no matter how tough it can get . Dropping out or giving up is not an option or a thought i want to think of. Trying my best and seeing how things play day by day is how i can keep going. Talking to my counselor helps me as well by having a plan on what classes i can take.

    5. Read comments posted by other students . Are any o their ideas useful to you ?

I like how tayler mentioned there are other places to study at like the library or office. I can study there or other places as well instead of at home. I know sometimes if i study at home i can get distracted easily. Also, i agree with kristen on school and having a job. I know it can get tough at time but staying focus and taking time can help .

  8. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
-I keep myself motivated to become successful by thinking of what more could i have if i had an education. A better paying job to supoort my family and an increase in knowledge. Another reason i try to motivate myself is the though of failure, when it comes in time where i didnt do so well on an exam or assignment, i look back and tell myslef that i can do better and i will so tht i am later not regreting anything that happend because i chose the coward way out. I try and tell myself to constanlty think postive so that good things can come.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?
-There were a few things that i actually do to help motivate me which were in chapter 1. One of things were rewarding yourself. Many times i reward myself with my favorite meal after having a long and stressful day of school, it gives me something to look fowrward to after a long session of studying and working in the library for hours.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?
-I actually did have the thought of dropping this course, because i didnt know how i was going to handle this being my first online class and how you need to manage your time really well with it. i told myself that i will make time each day and complete few sections each day. another thing which motivates me in not droping courses is that i would still have to take the course some time or another, and why not complete it now.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
-Some roadblocks to my success is time management and procastiantion. I sometimes have a difficult time between making time for school and leasure time. Sometimes i set aside school work and put forward other things that arent important. Things tht i need to change is putting school in front everything, making my education come first and then having leisure time as a motivator. It will be the little steps i will take to change these bad habits such as setting aside any distraction like my phone or television away and off from me.

-I like how Cendrice mentioned that she uses a list of goals and where she would like to be in the future. Having a plan not only for your education but your life goals in a journal is great idea and self motivator to look upon.

  9. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
Nothing feels better than being able to achieve my parent's satisfaction. Then have sacrificed and done so much for me. They want me to be successful; they want me to be happy; they want me to live a life they dream of having. Being a full-time student and working two jobs, I have a lot of stress weighing down on my shoulders. My parents are my motivation. They're the reason why I wake up everyday determined. If I continue to work hard and stay on track I will be successful. I have learned that being optimistic will allow me to achieve my goals and broaden my window of opportunities.

  10. 1. How do I motivate Myself?

I motivate myself everyday by looking at everything that needs improvement. Such as my pay, the work i do at my house, and my education. I also learn from all of my failures, major ones and big ones. As it is good to focus on all the positive, you also have to be aware of the negative things to learn from them.

2.Arew there any new ideas from chapter 1 to motivate yourself?

One strategy i found interesting to keep yourself motivated was rewarding yourself when you accomplish something useful. When i have my day and goals planned out, i do not stop until they are all completed otherwise i will be bothered all day. So if i learn to plan out my goals for the day, i can reward myself after they are all complete and just relax!

    3. How can I motivate myself to stay in College

I need to get a planner and make it a habit for me to write in it everyday all the assignments i need to complete before i decide to relax and have the day to myself. I have to keep focusing on what i want to do with my future so i do not become discourage to drop any classes or drop out of college.

4.How can i Overcome my Roadblockers

A road block i have in my life that effects me is my laziness and discouragement. So this chapter helped a lot because it focussed on overcoming your discouragement and finding motivation in everyday life. I just have to keep thinking about my future and everything i do now will effect it.

    5.Reflecting on others posts

I like Cedrice comment about how he keeps himself motivated to study. I need to learn how to give myself breaks in between so i do not get burned out as much to maintain good energy.

    1. I like your idea about getting a planner. For me, I need to learn how to manage my time better. Not just with class assignments but also with life. I saw something on pinterest that looked like it might be a cool idea. They made a planner with two sides. Side one was an Important needs to get done today list and side to was a side that are not as time restrictive. You would then use post-it notes to write down the things that you needed to do that day and place them on the correct side. As you finish items (perferably on the important side first) you can take them off, maybe get a basketball hoop and slam dunk your trash... or just toss it. At the end of the day, there will be things you didn't get to. Just put these postits on the important side for the next day. The pinterest post is probably much easier to follow, but just wanted to share that idea with you!

  11. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?
To be honest, I was at the edge of dropping out. I've learned that there is a difference between being smart and being "book" smart; Intelligence and education. I've noticed more people who had became successful are the ones who takes risks and drops out. Rather than paying thousands of dollars towards education, they invest in businesses, stocks, houses, etc. With all that knowledge, my mind kept telling me that I CAN be one of those successors. But I thought hard about it. Many have tried and only a few had made it. Obtaining a college degree would not guarantee me a future job however it will open doors for me. Playing it safe, sometimes, is the best option. I must open doors for myself.

  12. 1.How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
I motivate myself through my desire and willingness to do what I truly want. I always remind myself why I want this or that. If I give up on something that I don’t understand I know I will give up in the future. And also I always reflect on my accomplishments because certain flashbacks of achievements get me going to the direction that I want and it makes me to achieve more.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?
One that I found was reward yourself after a behavior that was helpful because if you take the necessary steps to accomplish what you want and reward yourself afterwards will encourage you to take more steps ahead.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?
I am not in a mood of dropping any class or this class in particular because I know I have a bright future ahead and to really get it is to achieve my goal. And also I have a family and I too am responsible in taking care of the house. Dropping out of college won’t get me anywhere.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
Some roadblock that gets in the way is things outside school. Solving those issues you become relax internally and you become more focused in school. And also talking to friends all the time gives me a hard time focusing on my school that’s why I set up time for social network and school so I don’t have to worry about assignments.

  13. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
For me personally I'm a very positive person who always tries to see the bright side of every situation, which I think helps me self motivate a lot. I know what I want in life and how I see my future and I know going to school is the only way to achieve the lifestyle I will eventually have. I hang out around other motivated people, I feel when you hang around friends who aren't very motivated and don't exactly know what they want for their lives it can sort of bring you down. Positive motivated hard working friends have always helped me to stay the same way. I have family who expects big things from me, with all that in mind, I stay pretty motivated.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?
Roadblocks I would say is I have a hard time focusing in classes, my mind wanders and i'm always day dreaming and before I know it the class is over and I have no clue what we learned. Which makes things harder then they have to be for me since I have to go back and relearn everything. But i'm going to try and use some of the techniques in chapter one to help refocus myself. Another is time management, I’m really bad about doing everything last minute, and fun things come up and I put my work off. I’m going to try and take things in smaller steps and get my work done before I go do the things I want to do, as a reward I get to see my friends but only after I do my work.

  14. 1. Mostly I try to picture the end result and think about how much I want it. I have a hard time waking up in the morning to face the day, so I convince myself every single day that college is something I can't skate past. I must do it.
    2. I found some of chapter 1's ideas on intrinsic motivation to be very helpful, so I added them to my arsenal.
    3. Tell myself no, I'm going to keep all my classes and I'm going to do them right.
    4. Big papers are a big roadblock, but if I just get them done early, before I have the chance to procrastinate then they won't be a problem.
    5. Many of them seem similar to mine. I hope that mean's I'm on the right track. I must envelop myself in a motivated environment.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1. I motivate myself to be successful by simply looking at what I want out of my education. I look at what I want my future to hold and the lifestyle that I desire to have. My motivation to be successful in school is to be successful later on in life. I don't think of the rewards along the way I think of the rewards I want to reap in the long run. There are many things I want for the future and I know that if I do not work as hard as I can and be the best that I can be that I might not attain them. Fulfilling my dreams is my motivation.

    2. For the most part I knew the ideas presented but I liked the idea of focusing on what interests you. It makes a huge difference to find a root of enjoyment or intrigue within school work. It is a really good way to engross yourself into the material instead of just going through the motions of studying it and knowing it. I am going to practice this because I think it will be very beneficial for me. I feel as if it will allow me for deeper reading into the material as well as understanding the ideas better because I will be more involved in the topics.

    3. I do not feel that way about this class and especially not about college. If I did though I would go back to my motivation. I would look to what I want in my future and it would stop me from admitting defeat. If I were to admit defeat in this class or in college it would mean I was admitting defeat when it comes to my goals and dreams. Failure without having tried my hardest will never be an option.

    4. My roadblocks would probably be my study habits, my lack of focus, and my memory issues. I have not so good study habit and I really need to step it up. I am no stranger to procrastinating up until the test and it is a terrible attribute of mine. I need to buckle down and choose studying over doing other activities, I need to stay consistent. I also lack focus when it comes to reading. It is hard for me to really get into the material but at the same time it is my own fault. I look at it mostly as my job, that I need to get through school to get closer to my goal. I look at it as the stepping stone to my diploma and then to my future. When what I really should be doing is treating it as more knowledge to cultivate that will make me a smarter and more well rounded individual. I need to change my approach to how I look at the information so that I can understand it and explain it with ease.

    5. The idea about keeping a personal journal is great. I think it is really beneficial to have something tangible like that. A list of goals that you can look at all the time and add to makes all the difference. Also someone mentioned using a planner to write down all of their work and assignments. I think that is great because it is key to being organized. It would help me a lot and would keep me on top of everything so I am going to start doing that as well.

  16. 1. Staying motivated is a struggle — our drive is constantly assaulted by negative thoughts. What separates the highly successful 2.I found some new ideas in chapter 1 are very helpful. For example, college helps me to develop my potential and also increases informed
citizen and understanding the view of the world.
    3. Dropping out of college is not one in my mind or my current plan at least in this period because I realized that is impossible get my dreams to become true unless finish my school. In addition I have a family and that means I have to take care of it by supporting them, so there is no doubt to persistent learning in my college.
4.The main roadblocks I have is time and how to manege it. I really got benefit from studying chapter 1 to know howto deal with this issue and Take advantage of every single thing.
5.I like how tayler mentioned there are other places to study at like the library or office. I can study there or other places as well instead of at home to be more focus on what I'm studying.

  17. 1)How do you motivate yourself to be successful? I have never atually needed motivation; I have always just done what has needed to be done.
2)Are there some new ideas on motivation in chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful? Yes, i really thought the idea that everything is in your control, and that fate is irrelevant was interesting. Also the idea that you cannot blame anyone but yourself for your actions is helpful.
    3) If you are thinking about dropping this class or out of college, how can you motivate yourslf to continue? I think that the best way to motivate yourself is by taking little steps, such as telling yourself that you will go to just the next day of class, then gradually increawe it to going to the next week, then the next month, then finally to finish out collge. It is by taking baby steps that one can achieve their goal and not lose motivation.
    4) What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them? Time is the major roadblock to my success at this point. I find myself constantly wishing that there was more time in the day so i that i can get more things done in order to become successful faster.
5)Read comments posted by other students. Are any of their ideas useful to you? Yes,I think that the comment regarding keeping a journal is very helpful because it is something that you can always keep on hand and refer to in case you feel unmotivated, or you find yourself losing track of your goals. One look at your journal, and you will remember what you need to do, and also be more motivated to get it done.

We all have goals and tasks that we want to accomplish but unfortunately we do not always find ourselves motivated to do our tasks or pursue our goals because sometimes we do not have enough ability to motivate ourselves to work on our goals. In my opinion, the most important thing to motivate me to be a successful person in my educational path or in my whole life knows exactly what I want to do or be in the future. Because knows exactly what I want to do or be will help me to plan and prepare my steps in a right time. Also, it will lead me to do not waste a lot of time in my educational path. The main thing will motivate me to continue in my college: what I should be when I finish my study, and how I will help my family specially my daughter in her study in the future. Some roadblocks to my success are time, language, and Fear of failure. I can overcome them by teach myself to divide my time, study hard to improve my language, and Find reasons for the fear of failure and learn crossed. All the ideas for other students in the top are very useful to me because they will increase my experience by do not fall in their mistakes.

  19. For the first 14 years of my life I grew up in a little village in Ukraine on a farm. I have watched my Parents and my Grandparents "break" their back to just put food on the table for my brother and I. My family, my Mom's and my Brother's faces, that is my motivation. I did face many obstacles by coming to a different country. I had to learn a new language, I had to learn new culture. But, having my families faces in my mind, knowing that they love me with all of their hearts no matter what I choose to be, that is my motivation. I never want my Mom have worries about me. I want to have that financial stabillity for myself and my family, and I will have it no matter what.

  20. We all have somethings motivate us to be successful in our life. About my self to still motivate I think about a good future I have to arrive it when I work or study hard. Supporting my family, and get butter life style lead me and encourage me to continue my educational way. In chapter one I get some notes will help me like citizen and understanding the view of the world.I can motivate myself to continue in the college by Training myself to think positive thoughts while avoiding negative thoughts and do not make a big or a final decision when I have a terrible.Roadblocks to my success is balancing my time between my job and my education. For instance, I posted my homework today late because all the week I was working and today we supposed to close at 10 pm but the key stick in the door, I wait it until some one came and fix it. Acutely, I did not read any posted from others students but I promise I will read it to take important information.

  21. 1. I motivate myself to be successful by reminding myself of my goals and dreams. For example, if I have a day where I do not want to go to class I remind myself that I want to be a teacher in my own room someday and that I need to be in class to learn the material; that it is not ok for me to barely get by in college.
    2. In chapter 1 I liked intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation as a topic. I first learned about this in psychology and then later in child development, and I agree that to have an intrinsic sense of motivation is key to wanting to be sucessful and feeling fulfilled in life.
    3. I motivate myself to continue my reminding myself that I have come so far and I am so very close to achieving my career goals. I tell myself "there is no reason to fail- this is a chance to earn an A and raise your GPA".
    4. Some roadblocks to my success are that I cannot devote my entire time to school and homework because I do have a part time job and a family and husband and home to take care of. I wish I could manage my time better, but my husband reminds me not to worry and to just accomplish what I can in the time I am given.
    5. I like Alex A.'s comment about keeping a planner to write in every day- I find that when I write down my assignments and important dates in one place (I use my phone) I am able to stay on top of everything.

  22. 1.how i motivate myself to be successful by trying to study as much as i can in order to help me achieve good grades in college. To always remember what my mom had to say about schooling that the only way out of poverty is though education. keeping small goals and acomplishing them to move on to my biggest goal.Trying to motivate myself to get that dream job and if i dont make it out of college how am supposed to make it in the real world.Learning to stay positive and optimistic can help me out in the most stressful of situations.

4.The obsticals in my path are myself and money because if i'm not right with myself how do i know if everything i do comes out right too. ,oney is a big issue because even though the school is paying for my classes i still need extra money to help me out in the time that i need to buy something like lunch or an extra book i need for class, but i have made it though that and money is still an issue but i can get all the help i need for economic matters.

  23. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

In my past, I didnt know it, but I was motivated by achievement. I wanted to do everything there was to do, and do it well. I always felt good doing well. I think that when I started doing poorly in things like my studies, fear of failure has taken over the motivation I needed for success. I am now trying to get that motivation back by doing things that keep me happy and healthy so that I can begin to succeed once more.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

The 7 steps to change a habbit was very interesting to me and I think will be helpful. I know that I need to work on my time management and creating good habbits will help me out to achieve this.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I need to remind myself to do positive thinking. If I am tempted to drop out of college, it is probably because I think that I am failing. If I remember to tell myself that I can succeed if I work hard, I will be less motivated to drop out.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

For a long time, the road blocks in my path were my reactions to the negative circumstances of life. It was hard for me to concentrate in class and outside of class. I am hoping that I have overcome those already though a lot of work that I have done. I think my biggest roadblock currently will be to maintain a healthy, balance but effective schedule and stick to it. I need to avoid my best friend procrastination, and learn how to live a life without unneccesary stress.

  24. If I was thinking about dropping the class or even dropping out of collage, there are a couple of things that could keep me motivated and prevent me from dropping out. First I need the class if I ever thought that the class was too hard and that I wanted to quit I would only have to remember how much I need the class. In order for me to maintain my health insurance I need to have a minimum of nine credits so if I ever decided to drop I would also lose my health insurance and not losing such a benefit is a major motivation. The other motivation I have is transferring to San Diego State University, dropping this class would cause this goal to go unrecognized for a longer period of time and I am unwilling to allow that to happen.

  25. One major road blocks in my life would have to be work. Work is both a blessing and a hindrance it’s a blessing for the obvious reason which is its monetary contribution to my life, the hindrance that follows working would be its time consumption. The hours I work often cut into my study time and thus causes me to either set aside or procrastinate on the things that I need to accomplish. As a student I need to learn to better balance my work and study life so that neither one out weighs the other. I believe that this will come with experience and that I need to just keep in mind how important school really is. Also I believe that taking this class may positively affect my ability to better organize my priorities.

  26. If I was ever thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, I would motivate myself to continue by reminding myself how far I've come just to give up. I would remind myself that in order for me to be successful I have to better my education. I would also motivate myself by picturing how life would be if I dropped out of college, and compare it to how I would want the future to be like once I’ve graduated college. Also how much my family would be proud of me. Another motivation for me to succeed is so I can give back to my mom and the people who helped me along the way.

  27. 3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I just have to think about how much I will get out of school. These days it seems as if you need to go to school to get any job and career. As much as everyone hates homework, and rather be out with friends than being in a classroom, it actually feels very good to doing something to better your future, I personally like to learn, I like to have to think about a problem and come up with a solution. If you go to school, and if you graduate, you will then be able to get a good job and career, which will help you better your life for your future, will help you help your family down the road. Going to school will help you go so much farther and have so many more opportunities than if you drop out of school. For those whom are in school, just realize how far you have come, and it would be a waste to give it all up now.

    1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?
When I do something successful it makes me feel good about myself, it makes me feel as if i'm getting somewhere in life. I feel like a failure and a waste of time if I fail. I want to get school done and over with as soon as I can and if I fail then it will take me much longer to get done with schooling. Supporting my family is though, my biggest motivation. I want my son to have the best life, and that is what motivates me.

    1. I really like your outlook. Your outlook sounds like myself as well as some of my friends/classmates. I feel that when we motivate ourselves and it makes us feel good about the progression we are going through in life it makes us want to move on to the next chapter. The next chapter will always be there but will we find time to move on to it? Knowing where we want to go in life an then pursuing it will help us move on to the next chapters in life and creating the best life we could for our kids and families.
Your son being a motivation is just like me as well. I always keep him in mind when I see that I’m not doing well or not progressing like I should be. When I look at him while doing homework or reading the chapters for class I feel like I’m accomplishing something even if it is just one class at a time. A failure is something not in our future, but something that will come across and know the ways out of it. We'll adapt well and progress strong.

  28. I motivate myself to be successful by trying to keep my focus on the bigger picture. The bigger picture for me is to excel in school and to get ahead while there is still time to do so. When you’re thinking about dropping a course or dropping out of college you have to sometimes think, will it benefit me if I stop now? Weigh the pros and the Cons. College isn’t for anyone, but I know for me and the life choices that I’m trying to achieve college is the way to go. Some roadblock to my success would be the fact that it has been a while since i have been in school, so it will be hard for me to get back into the swing of things. But I’m willing to try and put forth the effort when needed. I also have a son, I wouldn’t necessarily call him a road block, but he would need just as much attention as I would be giving time to school. Some of the other student ideas in class give me more motivation to become a better student and to strive for my goals because some of them have way more on their plate than I do. So if they are able to strive to do what they want to be better in life, then yay for them!
